Indigenous Tourism and Biodiversity Website Award 2010

the solution

The Convention on Biological Diversity’s Indigenous Tourism and Biodiversity Website (ITBW) Award serves to highlight indigenous and local communities’ benchmark websites of biodiversity-friendly tourism products. The award aims to motivate candidates to improve their online communication on biological and cultural diversity; to highlight their best practices in managing tourism in a biodiversity-friendly way; and to raise tourism operators and public’s awareness on biodiversity.

the solution

Solimar was responsible for producing a series of communications materials to promote the Award and its contributors; the winners and finalists; the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD); and Berlin’s Reisepavillon, where the ceremony was to be held. The materials included a full-color 12-page brochure, a postcard, PowerPoint template and a logo for the 2012 ITBW Award.

the solution

Working closely with Planeta.com and the CBD, Solimar created an outline for the 12-page brochure, and design templates for each page. Solimar sourced and edited the text alongside Planeta.com and the award’s contributors and winners, in order to maintain a clear and consistent editorial style and ensure accuracy.
Taking traditional Maori art as a visual theme, the brochure contains colorful, enticing photographs throughout, with the aim of showcasing the outstanding quality of the award’s winners and finalists.
An informative postcard, containing details of the award ceremony and accompanying workshop, was created in the same visual style as the brochure, along with a vibrant PowerPoint presentation to be displayed at the event. Additionally, three original designs were submitted for a new 2012 ITBW award logo, based on the award’s themes of indigenous culture, biodiversity and web-based technology.
Note: These materials were originally to be launched at the ITBW award ceremony in Berlin in April. However, due to volcanic ash preventing the event from taking place, the ceremony will now be held on September 10th as part of the Ecotourism and Sustainable Tourism Conference in Portland, Oregon.
